The Olympic Stadium

It's hard to picture the Olympics taking place during the height of the Holocaust. But in 1939, the Olympics were held in Berlin, giving Hitler the perfect opportunity to show off the Communist city and try to impress the world. And although the thought of so much celebration going on while so many were being persecuted is horrible, I have to admit that I was very impressed by the stadium. We climbed the stadium stairs, explored around the perimeter and even got to look out over Berlin from the bell tower. To my surprise, the stadium and all its facilities, including the outdoor Olympic pool are still in use today.
