On Wednesday I had the amazing opportunity to visit the Ayinger Brewery in Aying, Bavaria. This small town is located about half an hour train ride
outside of Munich. This brewery is unique from most others because it is completely family owned, unlike larger corporate companies. During my tour of the brewery I learned about the five different types of malts used to brew each of the twelve different beers that Ayinger produces, as well as sample them in the malt form (similar texture to that of a small nut or grain). Our tour guide was very well informed and was able to answer any questions that we may have had, including information about the brewery's founding family, the ingredients and process of beer production, and other facts about the surrounding area. I love trying new types of beer and learning about the differences in brands, so this opportunity was very interesting and fun for me, although the many free tasting samples that we were given at the end didn't hurt!
