Candy is pretty awesome. Everyone is pretty into candy. Berlin is my candy store and every shelf is a perfect skate spot that makes me nearly hyperventilate. My first taste of the Berlin skate scene was on day 2 at a place called Raw Tempel. I heard that it was an indoor skatepark so I basically expected what any American would of this description: a big, dimly lit warehouse with a tiny, almost unrecognizable sign out front. This place was the exact opposite. Huge area full of outdoor seating, graffiti everywhere, a large rock climbing building, a mini half pipe outside, stands for beer and food, even little gardens. Oh right, and an amazing skate park inside that has been visited by just about every professional skateboarding company while on tour. It's like a paradise where boredom isn't an option and skateboarding is the overlying theme. I could get locked in this place for three days and not realize I didn't have a choice of leaving. There's just way too much to do. Even if I didn't skate I think I could find endless entertainment. That's what is so amazing about the Berlin skate scene. Identifying oneself as a "skater" isn't even necessary with these places because they're interesting in so many other ways, the people are always cool, and the skating is good enough to just sit back and watch.
