After touching down in Munich, or München as they say here, the lack
of American influence surprised me, because in other countries I've visited, I saw Americana everywhere. One thing we
did run across, however, was this really neat art gallery in the center of town
with lots of United States-inspired work, including this Mickey Mouse gummy bear
piece. Our team enjoyed the small
taste of home like a flag made of different colored Coca-Cola cans and a wire
figure with lots of New York’s best attractions in the shape of a “big apple.”
We indulged in an American dinner from Subway, but they served British chips
and German drinks!

21 University
of South Carolina, School of Journalism and Mass Communications students and two professors are spending two weeks in Munich and Berlin Germany, as part of a May class. The object is to learn about convergence journalism and develop multimedia stories and communication skills that extend beyond the classroom. During this three-week class students will interview, write, photograph and video Germans and discover how different media's role is in this country.
