Men in Lederhosen

If you walk through Marienplatz at night, you will undoubtedly see a large group of excited young men running around wearing lederhosen. What are lederhosen? Glad you asked! Lederhosen are traditional German outfits worn by men. They’re shorts with built-in suspenders that are made out of deerskin. I don’t mean to sound culturally insensitive, but they look pretty ridiculous. If you’ve ever seen the sound of music, think of the outfits the little boys wear. Now picture grown men wearing them while drinking in public. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), they’re only worn for special occasions. In this case, they’re worn for bachelor parties. I love that a bit of traditional culture has been preserved and turned into something modern. It’s honestly one of the most memorable things I’ve seen in Germany.
